Our Dearest Camp Family,

What a time for strengthening our faith we are all experiencing with the Novel Covid-19 Virus that is impacting not just a single community or state or region, but our entire planet.  It is in a moment such as this when we may have uncertainty, chaos, or fear where we must realize that not all the answers will be identical, but we do know who will have the answers.  It is in this moment where we must lean into our connection with the grace of God and allow Him to be our hope and our strength.  As Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NLT) “…we live by BELIEVING and not by SEEING.”

The first weeks of Northwest Ohio Christian Youth Camp were held fifty-two years ago at rented facilities on Lake Erie near Sandusky, Ohio and have been held consistently every summer since. That is why the decision the board has faced for this coming summer has been such a heartbreaking process.  Every single board member has a desire for each week to go forth without any hesitation, but, unfortunately, that cannot be the case for 2020.  While we are certain that sentence is hard to read and to hear, please be assured, it was even harder to decide and to write.

With the uncertainty of Covid-19, how slowly or rapidly the phases of reopening will occur, and the possibility of the virus being spread, the board made the difficult and unanimous decision that for the safety of our campers, staff, families, churches, and our communities we will cancel our camp season for 2020.  While the hurt of the loss of our camp season is large, our hope is that depending upon the lifting of restrictions and progress through the phases of reopening, we may still be able to have some work periods throughout the middle of the summer and into the fall so that our camp can be refreshed and renewed for the best season in its history in 2021.

We ask you to pray for the families that have been directly affected by this virus through illness, loss of loved ones, loss of jobs, or whatever they may be facing.  We also ask you to pray for each camper, staff member, director, and board member as we all seek the face of God, and the wisdom to walk in His footsteps.  May God bless you and keep you ever in the Palm of His hand.

In His Service,

The NWOCYC Board of Directors

Even our Lord took time to recluse himself from the world in order to refocus and commune. And they came to an olive grove called Gethsemane, and Jesus said, “sit here while I go and pray.”
